iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max went on sale on September 18, 2026. Last year's 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are still sold in Yerevan — and noticeably cheaper. Here's what the extra money gets you.

What's new in the iPhone 18 Pro

• A20 Pro chip on a 2 nm process, replacing the A19 Pro.
• Main camera with variable aperture (f/1.48–f/4), so depth of field can be controlled optically rather than in software. The 48 MP ultrawide and telephoto cameras remain.
• Battery life: up to 36 hours of video on the 18 Pro (was 33) and up to 45 hours on the 18 Pro Max (was 39).
• Charging: 50% in about 15 minutes with a 60 W adapter (17 Pro: 20 minutes with 40 W).
• New colors: Black, Silver, Glacier, Burgundy.

What stays the same

Display sizes (6.3" and 6.9"), 120 Hz ProMotion, up to 3000 nits, 18 MP Center Stage front camera, aluminum body and MagSafe/Qi2 up to 25 W.

The gap is roughly 130,000–155,000 ֏.

Verdict

Coming from an iPhone 14 Pro or older, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is the better deal right now: nearly everything the 18 series offers, for over 150,000 ֏ less. Get the iPhone 18 Pro for the variable aperture and longer battery life, or if you plan to keep the phone 4–5 years. For 17 Pro owners, upgrading makes no sense.
